1. Blessed by YHVH the CREATOR our fathers WHO put this in the king's heart,
2. to honor the House for YHVH which is in Jerusalem.
3. HE has extended HIS Lovingkindness to me before the kings' counselors,
4. and before all the king's mighty princes.
5. thus i was strengthened according by the Hand of YHVH the CREATOR,
6. i gathered Leading men from Israel to go with me.

33. of the sons of Adonikam were the last ones,
34. these being their names Eliphelet Jeuel Shemaiah and 60 men with them.
35. of the sons of Bigvai and Uthai,
36. Zabbud and 70 men with them.
37. {{ i gathered them by the river that runs to ahava,
38. where we camped for 3 days.
39. when i observed the people and the Priests,
40. i did not find any Levites there.
41. i sent for Eliezer Ariel Shemaiah Elnathan Jarib Elnathan

51. 220 of the House servants whom David and the princes had given
for the service of the Levites,
52. all of them designated by name.}
53. then i proclaimed a fast there by the river ahava, ]
54. that we might humble ourselves before the CREATOR.
55. to seek from HIM a safe journey,
56. for us for our little ones and all our possessions.
57. i was ashamed to request the king troops,
58. his horsemen to protect us from the enemy on the way.
59. because we had said to the king,
60. the Hand of the CREATOR is Favorably in giving-good to all
    those who seek HIM.
61. {{ but HIS Power and HIS Anger are against all those who forsake HIM.}
62. so we fasted and sought the CREATOR concerning this,
63. HE Listened to our entreaty.
64. then i set apart 12 of the Leading Priests,
65. Sherebiah Hashabiah and with them 10 of their brothers.
66. i weighed out to them the silver gold and the Utensils,
67. for the Offerings for the House for the CREATOR.
68. for the king his counselors his princes,

70. thus i weighed into their hands 650 talents of silver,
71. {{ silver utensils worth 100 talents and a 100 gold talents.
72. 20 Gold Bowls worth 1000 darics,
73. 2 utensils of fine shiny bronze precious as gold.}
74. i said you are Holy to YHVH for the Utensils is Holy.
75. the silver and gold they are a Freewill Offering to YHVH the
    CREATOR of our fathers,
76. watch and keep them until you weigh them before the Leading Priests.
77. the Levites and the Head Fathers for Israel,
78. at Jerusalem in the chambers by the House for YHVH.
79. the Priests and Levites accepted the weighed out silver gold and Utensils.
80. bringing them to Jerusalem to the House for the CREATOR.
81. we journeyed from the river ahava on the 12th of the 1st month,
82. going to Jerusalem the Hand of the CREATOR was over us.
83. for HE Delivered us from the hand of the enemy and the ambushes by the way,
84. thus we came to Jerusalem and remained there 3 days.
85. on the 4th day the silver gold and Utensils were weighed out,
86. in the House for the CREATOR.
87. into the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah for the Priests,
88. and Eleazar the son of Phinehas for the Levites.
89. by Jozabad the son of Jeshua,
90. and Noadiah the son of Binnui.
91. everything was numbered and weighed,
92. all the weight was recorded at that time.
93. the exiles who had come from the captivity,
94. Offered Burnt Offerings to the CREATOR of Israel.

98. and for all Burnt Offerings to YHVH.
99. then delivered the king's edicts,
100. to the king's satraps and to the governors.
101. so beyond the river,
102. they supported our people and the House for the CREATOR.
Chapter 8	( part 1 )	9:1
1. these things had been completed the princes approached me saying,
2. the people of Israel Priests and Levites have not separated themselves
from the peoples of the lands.
3. but are according to their abominations of the canaanites hittites
perizzites jebusites ammonites moabites egyptians amorites,
4. they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves
   and for their sons.
5. the Holy Race has intermingled with the peoples of the lands,
6. indeed the hands of the princes and rulers have been foremost
   in this unfaithfulness.
7. as i heard about this matter i tore my garment, {{ my robe}
8. {{ i pulled some hair from my head and beard}
9. i sat down appalled.
10. then everyone trembled at the Words from the CREATOR of Israel,
11. on account of the unfaithfulness of the exiles that gathered to me.
12. we sat appalled until the Evening Offering,
13. at the Evening Offering i arose from my mourning.
14. even with my garment {{ my robe} torn,
15. i fell on my knees and stretched out my hands to YHVH the CREATOR. ]
16. saying CREATOR i am ashamed and embarrassed to lift my face to YOU,
17. CREATOR our iniquities have risen above our heads.
18. our guilt has grown even to the heavens,
19. since the days of our fathers to this day.
20. we are in great guilt and on account of our iniquities,
21. our kings and our Priests have been given into the hand of the
    kings of the lands.
22. for the sword and captivity,
23. as plunder and as open shame as is this day.
24. now for a brief moment YOUR Grace has come to us,
25. YHVH our CREATOR YOU have left us as an escaped remnant.
26. Giving us a peg by YOUR Holy Place,
27. that YOU CREATOR may open our eyes.
28. YOU Granted us a little reviving from our bondage for we were slaves,
29. yet in our bondage YOU CREATOR have not forsaken but extended YOUR
    Lovingkindness to us.
30. in the sight of the kings of persia YOU have Given us a reviving to
    raise up YOUR House CREATOR,
31. to restore the Ruins and to give us a Wall in Judah in Jerusalem.
32. now CREATOR what shall i say after this,
33. for we have forsaken YOUR Commandments which YOU have Commanded by
    YOUR Servants the Prophets.
34. saying the Land which you are entering to possess is an unclean land,
35. by the uncleanness of the peoples of the lands with their abominations.
36. {{ which have filled from end to end with their impurity.}
37. now do not give your daughters to their sons,
38. nor take their daughters for your sons.
39. never seek their peace or their prosperity that you may be strong,
40. eat the good of the Land and leave this as an Inheritance to your sons forever.
41. after all that has come upon us,
42. for our evil deeds and our great guilt.
43. since YOU CREATOR have requited us less than our iniquities deserve,
44. YOU have Given us an escaped remnant as this.
45. shall we again break YOUR Commandments?
46. intermarry with the peoples who commit these abominations?
47. would YOU not be angry with us to the point of destruction?
48. until there is no remnant nor any who escape?
49. YHVH the CREATOR of Israel YOU are Righteous,
50. for we have been left as an escaped remnant as is this day.
51. behold we are before YOU with our guilt,
52. for no one can stand before YOU because of this.
53. as Ezra was praying and making confession,
54. weeping and prostrating himself before the House for the CREATOR.
55. a very large assembly of men women children gathered to him from Israel,
56. for the people wept bitterly.
57. Shecaniah the son of Jehiel 1 of the sons of Elam spoke,
58. saying Ezra we have been unfaithful to the CREATOR.
59. we have married foreign women from the peoples in the land,
60. yet now there is hope for Israel in spite of this.
61. so now let us make a Covenant with the CREATOR,
62. to put away all these wives and their children.
63. according to the Counsel of the LORD,
64. with those who tremble at the Commandments from the CREATOR.
65. let this be done,
66. according to the Law.
67. arise for this matter is your responsibility,
68. be courageous and act.
69. Ezra rose,
70. made the Leading Priests Levites and all Israel take an Oath,
71. that they would do according to this proposal,
72. so they took the Oath.
73. Ezra rose from before the House for the CREATOR,
74. he went to the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib.
75. although he went there he did not eat bread nor drink water,
76. for he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.
Chapter 8	( part 2 )	10:7
77. they made a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem,
78. that all the exiles should gather at Jerusalem.
79. that whoever would not come within 3 days according to the counsel of
    the Leaders and the Elders,
80. all his possessions should be forfeited and he himself excluded from
    the assembly from the exiles.
81. so all the men of Judah and Benjamin gahtered at Jerusalem within 3 days,
82. this was the 9th month on the 20th of the month.
83. all the people sat in the open square before the House for the CREATOR,
84. trembling because of this matter.
85. in the heavy rain Ezra the Priest stood up and said,
86. you have been unfaithful marrying foreign wives so adding to the
    guilt of Israel.
87. now make a confession to YHVH the CREATOR of your fathers,
88. do HIS Will and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land
    and from the foreign wives.
89. then all the assembly answered,
90. saying with a loud voice.
91. this is right as you have said,
92. this is our duty to do this.
93. for there are many people and this is the rainy season,
94. we are not able to stand in the open.
95. nor can the task be done in 1 or 2 days,
96. for we have transgressed greatly in this matter.
97. let our Leaders represent the whole assembly,
98. let all those in our cities who have married foreign wives come
     at appointed times.
99. altogether with the Elders and Judges from each city,
100. until the Fierce Anger from the CREATOR has accounted for this
     matter and turns away.
101. only jonathan the son of asahel and jahzeiah the son of tikvah
     opposed this,
102. with meshullam and shabbethai the Levite supporting them.
103. but the exiles did so and Ezra the Priest selected men who were
     from the Head Fathers.
104. each for their Father's households by name.
105. so they convened on the 1st day of the 10th month,
106. to investigate the matter. ]
