2 SAMUEL
Chapter 1 ( part 34 )
1. came after the death of Saul.
2. David had returned from the slaughter of the amalekites,
3. for David remained 2 days in ziklag.
4. happened on the 3rd day,
5. behold a male came out of the camp from Saul.
6. his clothes torn and dust on his head as he came forth,
7. when he came to David he fell to the ground and prostrated himself.
8. David said from where do you come?
9. he said i have escaped from the camp of Israel.
10. David said how are things going please tell me?
11. he said the people have fled from the battle.
12. also many of the people have fallen and are dead,
13. Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.
14. David said to the young male,
15. tell how you know.
16. that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead.
17. the young male told him.
18. saying by chance i happened to be on mount gilboa,
19. behold Saul was leaning on his spear.
20. behold the chariots and the horsemen pursued him closely,
21. looking behind he saw me.
22. he called to me,
23. i said here i am.
24. he said who are you?
25. i answered i am an amalekite.
26. he said please stand beside me and kill me,
27. for agony has seized me because my life still lingers in me.
28. i stood beside him and killed him,
29. because i knew he could not live after he had fallen.
30. i took the crown which was on his head and the bracelet which was on his arm,
31. i have brought them here to my lord.
32. David took hold of his clothes and tore them,
33. also all the men mourned.
34. they wept and fasted until evening,
35. for Saul and his son Jonathan.
36. for the people of YHVH and the house of Israel,
37. because they had fallen by the sword.
38. David said to the young male,
39. who told him where are you from?
40. he answered,
41. i am the son of a foreigner an amalekite.
42. David said how is this you were not afraid?
43. to stretch out your hand to destroy YHVH's Anointed?
44. David called 1 of the young men,
45. saying go cut him down.
46. he struck him and he died,
47. David said to him your blood is on your head.
48. for your mouth has testified against you,
49. saying i have killed YHVH's Anointed.
Chapter 1 ( part 35 ) 1:17
1. David chanted with this lament over Saul and Jonathan his son,
2. he told them to teach the sons of Judah the Song of the Bow.
3. {{ for behold this is written in the book of jashar}
4. your beauty Israel is slain on your high places,
5. how have the mighty fallen.
6. tell this not in gath,
7. proclaim this not in the streets of ashkelon.
8. lest the daughters of the philistines rejoice,
9. lest the daughters of the uncircumcised exult.
10. mount gilboa let not dew or rain be on you,
11. {{ nor on the fields of offerings}
12. for there the shield of the mighty was defiled.
13. the shield of Saul HIS Anointed with Oil,
14. from the blood of the slain from the fat of the mighty.
15. the bow of Jonathan did not turn back,
16. the sword of Saul did not return empty.
17. Saul and Jonathan beloved and pleasant in their life,
18. in their death they were not parted.
19. they were swifter than eagles and stronger than lions,
20. daughters of Israel weep over Saul.
21. who clothed you luxuriously in scarlet,
22. who put ornaments of gold on your apparel.
23. how have the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle,
24. Jonathan is slain on your high places.
25. i am distressed for you my brother,
26. Jonathan you have been very pleasant to me.
27. for your love to me was more wonderful,
28. than the love of women.
29. how have the mighty fallen,
30. the weapons of war perished.
31. came afterwards,
32. David inquired of YHVH.
33. saying shall i go up to 1 of the cities of Judah,
34. YHVH Said go up.
35. David said where shall i go up,
36. HE said to hebron.
37. David went up there and his 2 wives also,
38. Ahinoam the jezreelitess and Abigail the widow of nabal the carmelite.
39. David brought up his men who were with him each with his household,
40. they lived in the cities of hebron.
41. the men of Judah came there,
42. Anointed David king over the house of Judah.
43. they told David saying,
44. the men of jabesh-gilead are who buried Saul.
45. David sent messengers to the men of jabesh-gilead,
46. saying may you be blessed by YHVH.
47. because you have shown this kindness to Saul,
48. to your lord for having buried him.
49. now may YHVH show Lovingkindness and Truth to you,
50. i also will show this goodness to you because you have done this thing.
51. now let your hands be strong and valiant for Saul your lord is dead,
52. also the house of Judah has Anointed me king over them.
Chapter 1 ( part 36 ) 2:7
1. for Abner the son of Ner commander of Saul's army had taken Ish-bosheth,
2. the son of Saul and brought him over to mahanaim.
3. he made him king over gilead over the ashurites.
4. over jezreel over ephraim over benjamin over all Israel.
5. Ish-bosheth Saul's son was 40 years old and became king over Israel,
6. he was king for 2 years.
7. the house of Judah however followed David,
8. the time David was king in hebron over the house of Judah was 7 years
and 6 months.
9. Abner the son of Ner went out from mahanaim to gibeon,
10. to the servants of Ish-bosheth the son of Saul.
11. Joab the son of Zeruiah and the servants of David went out,
12. met them by the pool of gibeon.
13. they sat down one on the one side of the pool,
14. and the other on the other side of the pool.
15. Abner said to Joab now let the young men arise,
16. hold a contest before us.
17. Joab said let them arise,
18. they arose and went over by count.
19. 12 for Benjamin and Ish-bosheth a son of Saul,
20. and 12 servants of David.
21. each 1 of them seized his opponent by the head,
22. and thrust his sword in his opponent's side.
23. they fell down together,
24. that place was called helkath-hazzurim which is by gibeon.
25. that day the battle was very severe,
26. Abner and the men of Israel were beaten before the servants of David.
27. now the 3 sons of Zeruiah were there,
28. Joab Abishai and Asahel.
29. Asahel was as swift footed,
30. as 1 of the gazelles which is in the field.
31. Asahel pursued Abner,
32. he did not turn to the right or to the left from following Abner.
33. Abner looked behind him,
34. said is that you Asahel?
35. he answered this is i,
36. Abner said turn to your right or to your left.
37. take hold of one of the young men for yourself,
38. take for yourself his spoil.
39. Asahel was not willing to turn aside from following him,
40. Abner repeated again to Asahel.
41. turn aside from following me,
42. why should i strike you to the ground?
43. how could i lift up my face to your brother Joab?
44. he refused to turn aside.
45. Abner struck him in the belly with the butt end of the spear,
46. the spear came out his back.
47. he fell there and died on the spot,
48. came all who came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died stood still.
49. Joab and Abishai pursued Abner as the sun was going down,
50. they came to the hill of ammah.
51. which is in front of giah on the way to the wilderness of gibeon,
52. the sons of Benjamin gathered together behind Abner to become 1 band.
53. they stood on the top of a certain hill,
54. Abner called to Joab saying,
55. shall the sword devour forever?
56. do you not know that this will be bitter in the end?
57. how long will you refrain from telling the people?
58. to turn back from following their brothers.
59. Joab said as the CREATOR Lives,
60. if you had not spoken.
61. surely then the people would have gone away in the morning,
62. each from following his brother.
63. Joab blew the trumpet and all the people halted,
64. they pursued Israel no longer nor did they continue to fight anymore.
65. Abner and his men went through the arabah all that night,
66. they crossed the jordan and walked all morning to come to mahanaim.
67. Joab returned from following Abner,
68. when he had gathered all the people together 19 of David's servants
besides Asahel were missing.
69. but the servants of David had struck down many of Benjamin and Abner's men,
70. 360 men died.
71. they took up Asahel and buried him in his father's tomb,
72. which was in bethlehem.
73. Joab and his men went all night,
74. until the day dawned by hebron. ]
Chapter 1 ( part 37 ) 3:1
1. now there was a long war,
2. between the house of Saul and the house of David.
3. David grew steadily stronger,
4. the house of Saul grew weaker continually.
5. sons were born to David at hebron,
6. his 1st-born was Amnon by Ahinoam the jezreelitess.
7. his 2nd Chileab by Abigail the widow of nabal the carmelite,
8. the 3rd Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of talmai king of geshur.
9. the 4th Adonijah the son of Haggith,
10. the 5th Shephatiah the son of Abital.
11. the 6th Ithream by David's wife Eglah,
12. these were born to David at hebron.
13. came war,
14. between the house of Saul and the house of David.
15. Abner was making himself strong in the house of Saul.
16. now Saul had a concubine,
17. whose name was Rizpah the daughter of Aiah.
18. Ish-bosheth said Abner,
19. why have you gone to my father's concubine?
20. Abner was very angry over the words of Ish-bosheth,
21. said am i a dog's head that belongs to Judah?
22. today i show kindness to the house of Saul your father,
23. to his brothers and to his friends.
24. having not delivered you into the hands of David,
25. yet today you charge me with a guilt concerning a woman.
26. may the CREATOR do so to Abner and more,
27. also if YHVH has Sworn to David that i do not accomplish this for him.
28. to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul,
29. to establish the throne of David over Israel and over Judah.
30. from dan even to beersheba,
31. he could no longer answer Abner a word because he was afraid of him.
32. Abner sent messengers to David in his place,
33. saying whose is the Land?
34. make your Covenant with me,
35. behold my hand shall be with you to bring all Israel over to you.
36. he said good i will make a Covenant with you,
37. i demand 1 thing of you.
38. namely you shall not see my face unless you 1st bring Michal,
39. Saul's daughter when you come to see me.
40. David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth,
41. to Saul's son saying.
42. give me my wife Michal,
43. to whom i was betrothed for a 100 foreskins of the philistines.
44. Ish-bosheth sent and took her from her husband,
45. Paltiel the son of Laish her husband went with her weeping as he went.
46. followed her as far as bahurim,
47. Abner said to him go return so he returned.
48. Abner had consultation with the Elders of Israel,
49. saying in times past you were seeking for David to be king over you.
50. now do for YHVH has Spoken of David,
51. Saying by the hand of MY Servant David.
52. I will Save MY People Israel from the hand of the philistines,
53. from the hand of all their enemies.
54. Abner also spoke in the hearing of Benjamin,
55. in addition Abner went to speak in the hearing of David in hebron.
56. all seemed good to Israel,
57. and to the whole house of Benjamin.
58. Abner and 20 men with him came to David at hebron,
59. David made a feast for Abner and the men who were with him.
60. Abner said David let me arise,
61. go and gather all Israel to my lord and king.
62. to make a Covenant with you to be king over all that your soul desires,
63. David sent Abner away going in peace.
64. behold the servants of David and Joab,
65. came from a raid bringing much spoil with them.
66. Abner was not with David in hebron,
67. when he had sent him away going in peace.
68. Joab and all the army arrived,
69. they told Joab saying.
70. Abner the son of Ner came to the king,
71. for he sent him away going in peace.
72. Joab came to the king,
73. said what have you done?
74. behold Abner came to you,
75. why then have you sent him away?
76. he is already gone.
77. you know Abner the son of Ner came to deceive you.
78. to learn of your going out and coming in,
79. to find out all you are doing.
80. Joab came out from David,
81. he sent messengers after Abner.
82. they brought him back from the well of sirah,
83. David did not know.
84. Abner returned to hebron,
85. Joab took him aside into the middle of the gate to speak with him privately.
86. there he struck him in the belly so that he died,
87. on account of the blood of Asahel his brother.
88. afterward when David heard he said,
89. i and my kingdom are innocent before YHVH forever.
90. the blood of Abner the son of Ner falls on the head of Joab,
91. and on all his father's house.
92. may there not fail from the house of Joab,
93. one who has a discharge or who is a leper.
94. or who takes hold of a distaff,
95. or who falls by the sword or who lacks bread.
96. Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner,
97. because he had put their brother Asahel to death in the battle in gibeon.
98. David said to Joab and to all the people who were with him,
99. tear your clothes and gird on sackcloth and lament before Abner.
100. king David walked behind the bier,
101. they buried Abner by hebron.
102. the king lifted up his voice and wept at the grave of Abner,
103. all the people wept.
104. the king chanted a lament for Abner saying,
105. should Abner die as a fool dies?
106. your hands were not bound nor your feet put in fetters,
107. but as one falls before the wicked you have fallen.
108. all the people wept again over him,
109. all the people came to persuade David to eat bread while this was still day.
110. David Vowed saying may the CREATOR do so to me and more also,
111. if i taste bread or anything else before the sun goes down.
112. all the people took note and this pleased them,
113. just as everything the king did pleased all the people.
114. all the people and all Israel understood that day,
115. this had not been the will of the king to put Abner the son of Ner to death.
116. the king said to his servants do you not know that a prince and a great
male has fallen this day in Israel?
117. i am weak today though Anointed king.
118. these men the sons of Zeruiah are too difficult for me,
119. may YHVH repay the evildoer according to his evil.
Chapter 1 ( part 38 ) 4:1
1. Ish-bosheth Saul's son heard,
2. Abner had died at hebron.
3. he lost courage,
4. all Israel was disturbed.
5. Saul's son had 2 men,
6. who were commanders of bands.
7. the name of the 1 was Baanah,
8. the name of the other Rechab.
9. sons of Rimmon a beerothite from the sons of Benjamin,
10. [(for beeroth is also considered part of Benjamin.
11. the beerothites fled to gittaim,
12. and have been aliens there until this day)]
13. Jonathan Saul's son,
14. had a son crippled in his feet.
15. he was 5 years old,
16. when the report of Saul and Jonathan came from jezreel.
17. his nurse took him up and fled,
18. this happened that in her hurry to flee.
19. he fell and became lame,
20. his name was Mephibosheth.
21. the sons of Rimmon the beerothite,
22. Rechab and Baanah departed.
23. came to the house of Ish-bosheth in the heat of the day,
24. while he was taking his midday rest.
25. they came to the middle of the house,
26. as if to get wheat.
27. they struck him in the belly,
28. Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.
29. they came into the house,
30. he was lying on his bed in his bedroom.
31. they struck to kill him,
32. beheaded him they took his head and traveled by way of arabah all night.
33. they brought the head of Ish-bosheth to David at hebron,
34. said to the king behold the head of Ish-bosheth.
35. the son of Saul your enemy who sought your life,
36. YHVH has given my lord and king vengeance this day on Saul and his descendants.
37. David answered Rechab and Baanah,
38. his brother sons from Rimmon the beerothite.
39. said as YHVH Lives,
40. WHO has Redeemed my life from all distress.
41. when told to me saying behold Saul is dead,
42. he thought he was bringing good news.
43. i seized him and killed him in ziklag,
44. which was the reward i gave him for his news.
45. how much more,
46. when wicked men have killed a righteous male in his own house on his bed?
47. shall i not now require his blood from your hand,
48. and destroy you from the earth.
49. David commanded the young men to kill them,
50. they cut off their hands and feet and hung them up beside the pool in hebron.
51. they took the head of Ish-bosheth,
52. and buried this the grave of Abner in hebron.
Chapter 1 ( part 39 ) 5:1
1. all the tribes of Israel came to David at hebron,
2. saying behold we are your bone and your flesh.
3. previously when Saul was king over us,
4. you were the one who led Israel out and in.
5. YHVH Said,
6. you will shepherd MY People Israel.
7. you will be a ruler over Israel,
8. all the Elders from Israel came to the king at hebron.
9. king David made a Covenant with them,
10. before YHVH at hebron.
11. they Anointed David king over Israel,
12. David at 30 years old became king.
13. he reigned 40 years at hebron,
14. he reigned over Judah 7 years and 6 months.
15. in Jerusalem he reigned 33 years,
16. over all Israel and Judah.
17. the king and his men went to jerusalem,
18. against the jebusites the inhabitants of the Land.
19. they said to David you shall not come in here,
20. the blind and lame shall turn you away.
21. thinking David cannot enter here,
22. David captured the stronghold of Zion.
23. that is the City of David,
24. David said on that day.
25. whoever would strike the jebusites,
26. let him reach the lame and the blind.
27. who are hated by David's soul,
28. through the water tunnel.
29. therefore they say,
30. the blind or the lame shall not come into the house.
31. David lived in the stronghold,
32. called this the City of David.
33. David built all around,
34. from the millo inward.
35. David became greater and greater,
36. for YHVH the CREATOR of Hosts was with him.
37. hiram king of tyre,
38. sent messengers to David.
39. cedar trees carpenters and stonemasons,
40. they built a house for David.
41. David realized YHVH had established him as king over Israel,
42. HE had exalted his kingdom for the sake of HIS People Israel.
43. David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem,
44. after he came from hebron.
45. more sons and daughters were born to David,
46. these are the names.
47. those who were born to him in Jerusalem,
48. Shammua Shobab Nathan Solomon Ibhar Elishua Nepheg Japhia
Elishama Eliada Eliphelet.
49. the philistines heard,
50. they had anointed David king over Israel.
51. all the philistines went up,
52. to seek out David.
53. David heard,
54. he went down to the stronghold.
55. the philistines came,
56. spread themselves out in the valley of rephaim.
57. David inquired of YHVH saying shall i go up against the philistines?
58. will YOU give them into my hand?
59. YHVH Said David go up,
60. I will certainly Give the philistines into your hand.
61. David came to baal-perazim,
62. defeated them there.
63. he said YHVH has broken through my enemies before me,
64. like the breakthrough of waters.
65. therefore he named that place baal-perazim,
66. for they abandoned their idols there.
67. so David and his men carried them away,
68. now the philistines came up once again.
69. spread themselves out in the valley of rephaim,
70. David inquired of YHVH.
71. HE Said you shall not go up,
72. but circle around behind them and come at them in front of the balsam trees.
73. as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees,
74. then you act promptly.
75. for then YHVH will have gone out before you,
76. striking the army of the philistines.
77. David did so,
78. just as YHVH had Commanded him.
79. he struck down the philistines,
80. from geba as far as gezer.
Chapter 1 ( part 40 ) 6:1
1. David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel,
2. 30,000.
3. David arose,
4. went with all the people who were with him to baale-judah.
5. to bring up from there the Ark for the CREATOR,
6. which is called by the Name.
7. the Very Name YHVH of Hosts,
8. enthroned above Cherubim.
9. they placed the Ark for the CREATOR on a new cart,
10. that they might bring from the house of Abinadab which was on the hill.
11. Uzzah and Ahio,
12. the sons of Abinadab were leading the new cart.
13. they brought the Ark for the CREATOR,
14. from the house of Abinadab which was on the hill.
15. Ahio was walking ahead of the Ark,
16. David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before YHVH.
17. with all kinds of instruments,
18. made of fir wood.
19. lyres and harps,
20. tambourines castanets and cymbals.
21. they came to the threshing floor of Nacon,
22. Uzzah reached out toward the Ark for the CREATOR.
23. taking hold of the Ark,
24. for the oxen nearly upset the Ark.
25. the Anger of YHVH burned against Uzzah,
26. the CREATOR struck him down there.
27. for his irreverence he died there,
28. by the Ark for the CREATOR.
29. David became angry because of YHVH's Outburst against Uzzah,
30. that place is called perez-uzzah to this day.
31. David was afraid of YHVH that day,
32. saying how can the Ark for YHVH come to me?
33. David was unwilling to move the Ark for YHVH into the City of David with him,
34. David took the Ark aside to the house of Obed-edom the gittite.
35. the Ark for YHVH remained in the house of Obed-edom the gittite for 3 months,
36. YHVH Blessed Obed-edom and all his household.
37. they told king David,
38. saying YHVH has Blessed the house of Obed-edom.
39. all that belongs to him,
40. on account of the Ark for the CREATOR.
41. David went and brought up the Ark for the CREATOR,
42. from the house of Obed-edom into the City of David with gladness.
43. when the bearers of the Ark for YHVH had gone 6 paces,
44. he Sacrificed an ox and a fatling.
45. David was dancing before YHVH with all his might,
46. David was wearing a Linen Ephod.
47. David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the Ark for YHVH,
48. with shouting and sounds from the trumpet.
49. happened as the Ark for YHVH came into the City of David,
50. Michal the daughter of Saul looked out from the window.
51. saw king David leaping and dancing before YHVH,
52. she despised him in her heart.
53. David and all the house of Israel brought in the Ark for YHVH,
54. set in place inside the Tent which David had pitched.
55. David Offered Burnt Offerings and Peace Offerings before YHVH,
56. when David had finished Offering the Burnt Offering and the Peace Offering.
57. he blessed the people in the Name YHVH of Hosts.
58. he distributed to all the people,
59. to all the multitude of Israel.
60. both to men and women a cake of bread.
61. 1 of dates,
62. 1 of raisins to each 1.
63. all the people departed each to his house,
64. David returned to bless his household.
65. Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David,
66. saying how did the king of Israel distinguished himself today?
67. he uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants' maids,
68. as 1 of the foolish ones shamelessly uncovers himself.
69. David said Michal this was before YHVH,
70. WHO Chose me above your father.
71. above all his house HE Appointed me ruler,
72. over the People for YHVH and over Israel.
73. i will celebrate before YHVH,
74. i will more lightly esteem you than this by humbling you in my own eyes.
75. the maids of whom you have spoken i will be distinguished,
76. Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.
