1 SAMUEL
Chapter 1	( part 1 )
1. now there was a certain male from ramathaim-zophim,
2. from the hill country of Ephraim.
3. his name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham,
4. son of Elihu son of Tohu son of Zuph an Ephraimite.
5. he had 2 wives,
6. the name of 1 was Hannah and the name of the other Peninnah.
7. Peninnah had children,
8. Hannah had no children.
9. now this male would go up from his city yearly,
10. to worship and sacrifice to YHVH of Hosts in Shiloh.
11. the 2 sons of Eli,
12. Hophni and Phinehas were Priests to YHVH there.
13. when the day came,
14. for Elkanah to Sacrificed.
15. he would give portions to Peninnah his wife,
16. and to all her sons and her daughters.
17. to Hannah he would give a double portion,
18. for he loved Hannah but YHVH had closed her womb.
19. her rival however would provoke her bitterly,
20. to irritate her because YHVH had closed her womb.
21. this happened year after year,
22. as often as she went up to the House for YHVH.
23. she would provoke her so she wept and would not eat,
24. Elkanah her husband said Hannah.
25. why do you weep?
26. why do you not eat?
27. why is your heart sad?
28. for am i not better to you than 10 sons?
29. Hannah rose after eating and drinking,
30. they went to Shiloh.
31. now Eli the Priest was sitting in a seat,
32. by the Doorpost of the House for YHVH.
33. she being greatly distressed prayed to YHVH,
34. she wept bitterly as she made a Vow.
35. she said YHVH of Hosts,
36. if YOU indeed Look on the affliction of YOUR maidservant.
37. remember me and not forget YOUR Maidservant,
38. give to YOUR Maidservant a son.
39. then i will give him to YOU YHVH,
40. all the days of his life a razor shall never come on his head.
41. came as she continued praying before YHVH,
42. that Eli was watching her mouth.
43. for Hannah was speaking in her heart,
44. only her lips were moving but her voice was not heard.
45. Eli thought she was drunk,
46. for Eli said how long will you make yourself drunk?
47. put away your wine,
48. Hannah answered saying no my lord i am a woman oppressed in spirit.
49. i have drunk neither wine nor strong drink,
50. i have poured out my soul before YHVH.
51. do not consider your maidservant a worthless woman,
52. for i have spoken until now out of my great concern and provocation.
53. Eli answered saying go in peace,
54. may the CREATOR of Israel grant your petition you have asked of HIM.
55. she said let your maidservant find favor in your sight,
56. the woman went her way and ate for her face was no longer sad.
57. they arose early in the morning and worshiped before YHVH,
58. they returned again to their house in ramah.
59. Elkanah had relations with Hannah his wife,
60. YHVH Remembered her.
61. came in due time,
62. Hannah had conceived and she gave birth to a son.
63. she named him Samuel,
64. because i have asked YHVH.
65. the male Elkanah went up with all his household,
66. with Offerings to YHVH.
67. the yearly Sacrifice and Vow,
68. Hannah did not go up.
69. she said to husband,
70. not until the child is weaned.
71. then i will bring him that he may appear before YHVH,
72. he will stay there forever.
73. Elkanah her husband said do what seems best,
74. remain until you have weaned him only may YHVH confirm your word.
75. so the woman remained nursing her son,
76. until she weaned him.
77. when she had weaned him she took him up,
78. with a 3 year old bull and 1 ephah of flour and a jug of wine.
79. she brought him to the House for YHVH in Shiloh,
80. although the child was young they slaughtered the bull.
81. she brought the boy to Eli,
82. said oh my lord as your soul lives my lord.
83. i am the woman who stood here beside you praying to YHVH,
84. this is the boy i prayed for to YHVH.
85. HE has Given me my petition which i asked,
86. so i have also dedicated him to YHVH.
87. as long as he lives he is dedicated to YHVH,
88. so they worshiped YHVH there.
89. Hannah prayed saying,
90. my heart exults in YHVH.
91. my horn is exalted by YHVH,
92. my mouth speaks boldly against my enemies.
93. because i rejoice in YOUR Salvation,
94. for there is no one Holy like YHVH.
95. indeed there is no one besides YOU,
96. nor is there any Rock like our CREATOR. ]
97. boast no more you very proudly,
98. do not let arrogance come out of your mouth for YHVH is GOD.
99. knowledge is with HIM as actions are weighed,
100. the bows of the mighty are shattered as the feeble gird on strength.
101. those who were full hire themselves out for bread,
102. those who were hungry cease to hunger.
103. even the barren gives birth to 7,
104. she who has many children languishes.
105. YHVH kills and makes alive,
106. HE brings down to sheol and raises up.
107. YHVH makes poor and rich,
108. HE brings low HE also exalts.
109. HE raises the poor from the dust,
110. HE lifts the needy from the ash heap.
111. HE makes them sit with nobles,
112. they inherit a seat of honor.
113. for the pillars of the earth are YHVH's,
114. HE set the world on them.
115. HE keeps the feet of HIS Pious Ones,
116. but the wicked ones are silenced in darkness.
117. for not by might shall a male prevail,
118. those who contend with YHVH will be shattered.
119. against them HE will thunder in the heavens,
120. YHVH Judges to the end of the earth.
121. HE will give strength to HIS King,
122. exalting the horn of HIS Anointed.
123. then Elkanah went to his home at ramah,
124. but the boy ministered to YHVH before Eli the Priest.
Chapter 1	( part 2 )	2:12
1. now the sons of Eli were worthless men,
2. they did not know YHVH or the custom of the Priests with the people.
3. for as any male was Offering a Sacrifice,
4. the Priest's servant would come while the meat was boiling.
5. with a 3-pronged fork in his hand,
6. he would thrust into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot.
7. all the fork brought up the Priest would take for himself,
8. thus they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.
9. also before they Burn the Fat the Priest's servant would come,
10. say to the male who was Sacrificing.
11. give the Priest meat for roasting,
12. for he will not take boiled meat from you only raw.
13. if the male said to him they must surely burn the Fat 1st,
14. then take as much as you desire.
15. he said no you give now,
16. if not i will take by force.
17. the sin of the young men was very great before YHVH,
18. for the men despised the Offerings to YHVH.
19. Samuel was ministering before YHVH,
20. as a boy wearing a linen Ephod.
21. for his mother would make him a little robe,
22. bring to him from year to year.
23. for she would come up with her husband,
24. to Offer the yearly Sacrifice.
25. Eli blessed them,
26. Elkanah and his wife by saying.
27. may YHVH give you children from this woman,
28. in place of the one she dedicated to YHVH.
29. they went to their own home,
30. YHVH visited Hannah and she conceived.
31. she gave birth to 3 sons and 2 daughters,
32. the boy Samuel grew before YHVH.
33. now Eli was very old,
34. he heard all his sons were doing to all Israel.
35. how they lay with the women,
36. who served at the Doorway of the Tent of Meeting.
37. he said why do you do such things?
38. the evil things i hear from all these people?
39. no my sons for the report is not good,
40. which i hear YHVH's People circulating.
41. if 1 male sins against another,
42. the CREATOR will mediate for him.
43. if a male sins against YHVH,
44. who can intercede for him?
45. they would not listen to the voice of their father,
46. for YHVH desired to put them to death.
47. the boy Samuel was growing in stature and in favor,
48. both with YHVH and with men.
49. then a Male for the CREATOR came to Eli,
50. saying thus Says YHVH.
51. did I not indeed reveal MYSELF?
52. to the house of your father?
53. when they were in egypt?
54. in pharaoh's house?
55. did I not Choose them?
56. from all the tribes of Israel to be MY Priests?
57. to go up to MY Altar?
58. to Burn Incense and to carry an Ephod before ME?
59. did I not Give to the house of your father?
60. all the Fire Offerings of the sons of Israel?
61. why do you kick at MY Sacrifice and MY Offering?
62. which I have Commanded in MY Dwelling?
63. you honor your sons above ME,
64. by making yourselves fat with the choicest of every Offering from MY People Israel?
65. therefore YHVH the CREATOR of Israel Declares,
66. I Did indeed Say.
67. to your house and the house of your father,
68. you should walk before ME forever.
69. now YHVH Declares,
70. far be from ME for those who honor ME I will honor.
71. those who despise ME,
72. will be lightly esteemed.
73. behold the days are coming,
74. when I will break your strength.
75. the strength of your father's house,
76. so that there will not be an old male in your house.
77. I see the distress of MY Dwelling,
78. in spite of all I Do Good for Israel.
79. an old male will not be in your house forever,
80. I will cut off every male of yours from MY Altar.
81. that your eyes may fail and your soul grieve,
82. all the increase from your house will die in the prime of life.
83. this will be the Sign to you which shall come concerning your 2 sons,
84. Hophni and Phinehas on the same day both will die.
85. but I will raise up for MYSELF a Faithful Priest,
86. who will do according to what is in MY Heart and in MY Soul.
87. I will build him an enduring house,
88. he will walk before as MY Anointed always.
89. come as everyone who is left in your house,
90. they will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver or a loaf of bread.
91. saying please assign me to 1 of the Priest's Offices,
92. that i may eat a piece of bread.
Chapter 1	( part 3 )	3:1
1. the boy Samuel was ministering to YHVH before Eli,
2. Word from YHVH was rare in those days for visions were infrequent.
3. this happened at that time as Eli was lying down in his place,
4. {(now his eyesight had begun to grow dim and he could not see well.)}
5. for the Lamp of the CREATOR had not yet gone out.
6. Samuel was lying down in the House for YHVH,
7. where the Ark from the CREATOR was.
8. YHVH Called Samuel,
9. he said here i am.
10. he ran to Eli saying,
11. here i am for you called me.
12. he said i did not call,
13. lie down again so he went and lay down.
14. YHVH Called yet again to Samuel,
15. so Samuel arose and went to Eli.
16. saying here i am for you called me,
17. he answered i did not call you my son lie down again.
18. now Samuel did not yet know YHVH,
19. nor had the Word from YHVH yet been revealed to him.
20. YHVH Called Samuel again for the 3rd time,
21. he arose and went to Eli.
22. saying here i am for you called me,
23. Eli discerned YHVH was Calling the boy.
24. Eli said Samuel go lie down,
25. if HE Calls you you shall say.
26. speak YHVH YOUR Servant is listening,
27. Samuel went and lay down in his place.
28. YHVH Came and Stood,
29. Called as at other times Samuel Samuel.
30. Samuel said speak YOUR Servant is listening,
31. YHVH Said Samuel behold.
32. I AM about to do a thing in Israel,
33. which both ears of everyone who hears will tingle.
34. in that Day I will carry out against Eli all I have Spoken,
35. concerning his house from beginning to end.
36. for I have Told him I AM about to Judge his house forever,
37. for the iniquity which he knew of.
38. because his sons brought a curse on themselves,
39. he did not rebuke them.
40. therefore I have Sworn of the house of Eli,
41. the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be Atoned for by Sacrifice or Offering forever.
42. Samuel lay down until morning,
43. he opened the doors of the House for YHVH.
44. Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli,
45. then Eli called Samuel.
46. said Samuel my son,
47. he said here i am.
48. he said what is the Word HE Spoke to you,
49. please do not hide from me.
50. may the CREATOR do so to you and more also,
51. if you hide anything from me of all the Words HE Spoke to you.
52. Samuel told him everything,
53. hid nothing from him.
54. he said this is YHVH let HIM Do what seems Good to HIM,
55. thus Samuel grew for YHVH was with him and let none of HIS Words fail.
56. all Israel from Dan even to beersheba,
57. knew Samuel was confirmed as a Prophet for YHVH.
58. for YHVH had Appeared again at Shiloh,
59. YHVH Revealed HIMSELF to Samuel at Shiloh.
60. the Words from YHVH came by the word of Samuel,
61. thus came all Israel.
Chapter 1	( part 4 )	4:1.2
1. now Israel went out,
2. meet the philistines for battle.
3. camped beside ebenezer,
4. while the philistines camped in aphek.
5. the philistines drew up in battle array,
6. to meet Israel.
7. as the battle spread Israel was defeated before the philistines,
8. who killed about 4,000 men on the battlefield.
9. when the people came into the camp,
10. the Elders of Israel said.
11. why has YHVH defeated us today before the philistines?
12. let us take to ourselves from Shiloh the Ark for the Covenant.
13. may YHVH come among us,
14. Deliver us from the power of our enemies.
15. the people sent to Shiloh,
16. from there they carried the Ark from the Covenant.
17. YHVH of Hosts,
18. WHO Dwells above the cherubim.
19. the 2 sons of Eli Hophni and Phinehas,
20. were there with the Ark from the Covenant from the CREATOR.
21. happened as the Ark for the Covenant from YHVH came into the camp,
22. all Israel shouted with a great shout so the earth resounded.
23. the philistines heard the noise of the shout,
24. saying what noise is this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews mean?
25. they understood the Ark from YHVH came to the camp,
26. the philistines were afraid.
27. they said their CREATOR has come to the camp,
28. saying woe to us for nothing like this has happened before.
29. woe to us for who shall deliver us?
30. from the Hand of this Mighty CREATOR.
31. this is the CREATOR WHO Smote the egyptians,
32. with all the plagues in the wilderness.
33. take courage men of philistines,
34. lest you become slaves to the Hebrews.
35. they have been slaves to you,
36. therefore be men and fight.
37. so the philistines fought,
38. Israel was defeated.
39. every male fled to his tent,
40. the slaughter was very great.
41. for there fell of Israel,
42. 30,000 foot soldiers.
43. the Ark for the CREATOR was taken,
44. the 2 sons of Eli Hophni and Phinehas died.
45. now a male from Benjamin ran from the battle line,
46. he came to Shiloh the same day his clothes torn with dust on his head.
47. when he came behold Eli was sitting on his seat by the road,
48. eagerly watching because his heart was trembling for the Ark from the CREATOR.
49. so the male came to tell this in the city,
50. all the city cried out.
51. when Eli heard,
52. the noise of the outcry he said.
53. what is the noise of this commotion?
54. the male came hurriedly and told Eli.
55. now Eli was 98 years old,
56. his eyes were set so that he could not see.
57. the male said Eli i am the one who came from the battle line,
58. indeed i escaped from the battle line today.
59. he said how did things go my son?
60. the one who brought the news answered.
61. said Israel has fled before the philistines,
62. there has also been a great slaughter among the people.
63. your 2 sons also Hophni and Phinehas are dead,
64. the Ark for the CREATOR has been taken.
65. came as he mentioned the Ark for the CREATOR,
66. Eli fell off the seat backward beside the gate.
67. his neck was broken and died for he was old and heavy,
68. thus he Judged Israel 40 years.
69. now his daughter-in-law Phinehas' wife was pregnant,
70. she was about to give birth and heard the news.
71. the Ark for the CREATOR was taken,
72. her father-in-law and her husband had died.
73. she kneeled down and gave birth,
74. for her pains came upon her.
75. about the time of her death,
76. the women who stood by her said do not be afraid.
77. for you have given birth to a son,
78. but she did not answer or pay attention.
79. she called the boy Ichabod,
80. saying the Glory has departed from Israel.
81. because the Ark for the CREATOR was taken,
82. because of her father-in-law and her husband.
83. she said the Glory has departed from Israel,
84. for the Ark for the CREATOR was taken.
Chapter 1	( part 5 )	5:1
1. the philistines took the Ark for the CREATOR,
2. brought the Ark from ebenezer to ashdod.
3. the philistines took the Ark for the CREATOR and brought into the house of dagon,
4. set the Ark by dagon.
5. the ashdodites arose early the next morning,
6. behold dagon had fallen on the face to the ground before the Ark for YHVH.
7. they took dagon,
8. set him in place again.
9. they arose early the next morning,
10. behold dagon had fallen on the face to the ground before the Ark for YHVH.
11. the head of dagon and both the palms and hands were cut off,
12. on the threshold only the trunk of dagon was left.
13. therefore neither the priests of dagon,
14. nor all who enter dagon's house.
15. tread on the threshold of dagon,
16. in ashdod to this day.
17. now the Hand of YHVH was heavy on the ashdodites,
18. HE ravaged them and smote them with tumors.
19. both in ashdod and their territories,
20. when the men of ashdod saw that was so.
21. they said the Ark for the CREATOR of Israel,
22. must not remain with us.
23. for HIS Hand is severe on us,
24. and on dagon our creator.
25. so they sent and gathered all the lords for the philistines to them,
26. said what shall we do with the Ark for the CREATOR of Israel?
27. they said let the Ark for the CREATOR of Israel be brought around to gath,
28. they brought the Ark for the CREATOR of Israel.
29. came after they had brought the Ark around,
30. the Hand of YHVH was against the city.
31. with very great confusion HE Smote the men of the city,
32. both young and old so that tumors broke out on them.
33. so they sent the Ark for the CREATOR to ekron,
34. happened as the Ark for the CREATOR came to ekron.
35. the ekronites cried out saying,
36. they have brought the Ark for the CREATOR of Israel around to us to kill us and our people.
37. they sent therefore to gather,
38. all the lords for the philistines.
39. saying send away the Ark for the CREATOR of Israel,
40. let the Ark return to their place that HE may not kill us and our people.
41. for there was a deadly confusion throughout the city,
42. the Hand of the CREATOR was very heavy there.
43. the men who did not die were smitten with tumors,
44. the cry of the city went up to heaven.
Chapter 1	( part 6 )	6:1
1. now the Ark for YHVH had been in the country of the philistines 7 months,
2. the philistines called for the priests and the diviners.
3. saying what shall we do with the Ark for YHVH?
4. tell us how we shall send the Ark to their place.
5. they said if you send away the Ark for the CREATOR of Israel,
6. do not send the Ark empty.
7. you shall surely return the Ark with a guilt offering,
8. if healed this shall be known to us by who's hand is not removed.
9. they said what shall be the guilt offering which we shall return with the Ark,
10. they said 5 golden tumors and 5 golden mice.
11. the number of the lords of the philistines,
12. for 1 plague was on all and on our lords.
13. so you shall make likenesses of tumors,
14. and the likenesses of mice that ravage the land.
15. you shall give glory to the CREATOR of Israel,
16. perhaps HE will ease HIS Hand our creator and land.
17. why then do you harden your hearts as the egyptians?
18. as pharaoh hardened his heart?
19. when HE had severely dealt with them,
20. they did not allow the people to go and departed?
21. now therefore take and prepare a new cart,
22. with 2 milch cows on which there has never been a yoke.
23. hitch the cows to the cart,
24. take their calves home away from them.
25. take the Ark for YHVH and place the Ark on the cart,
26. put the articles of gold which you will return with the Ark.
27. the guilt offering in a box by the side,
28. then send the Ark away.
29. go and watch if the Ark goes up by the way to their own territory to beth-shemesh,
30. then HE has done us this great evil.
31. but if not then we shall know that this was not HIS Hand that struck us,
32. or this happened to us by chance.
33. then the men did so and took the 2 milch cows,
34. hitched them to the cart and shut up their calves at home.
35. they put the Ark for YHVH on the cart,
36. and the box with the golden mice and the likenesses of their tumors.
37. the cows took a straight way in the direction of beth-shemesh,
38. they went along the highway lowing as they went.
39. they did not turn aside to the right or to the left,
40. the lords of the philistines followed them to the border of beth-shemesh.
41. now the people from beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley,
42. they raised their eyes.
43. saw the Ark,
44. they were glad to see the Ark.
45. the cart came into the field of Joshua the Beth-shemite,
46. they stood there where there was a large stone.
47. they split the wood of the cart,
48. Offered the cows as a Burnt Offering to YHVH.
49. the Levites took down the Ark for YHVH,
50. with the box in which were the articles of gold.
51. put them on the large stone,
52. the men from beth-shemesh Offered Burnt Offerings.
53. they sacrificed Sacrifices that day to YHVH,
54. when the 5 lords of the philistines saw they returned to ekron that day.
55. these are the golden tumors which the philistines returned for a guilt offering to YHVH,
56. 1 for ashdod 1 for gaza 1 for ashkelon 1 for gath 1 for ekron.
57. the golden mice for the number of all the cities of the philistines,
58. belonging to the 5 lords.
59. for both the fortified cities,
60. and country villages.
61. the large stone by which they set the Ark for YHVH is a witness to this day,
62. in the field of Joshua the beth-shemite.
63. HE struck down some of the men of beth-shemesh,
64. because they had looked into the Ark for YHVH.
65. HE struck down of all the people,
66. 50,070 men.
67. the people mourned,
68. because YHVH had struck the people with a great slaughter.
69. the men from beth-shemesh said,
70. who is able to stand before YHVH?
71. this Holy CREATOR,
72. to whom shall HE go up from us?
73. so they sent messengers,
74. to the inhabitants of kiriath-jearim.
75. saying the philistines have brought back the Ark for YHVH,
76. come down and take the Ark up to you.
Chapter 1	( part 7 )	7:1
1. the men from kiriath-jearim came,
2. took the Ark for YHVH.
3. brought into the house of Abinadab on the hill,
4. they consecrated Eleazar his son to keep the Ark for YHVH.
5. came about from that day,
6. the Ark remained at kiriath-jearim.
7. the time was long for this was 20 years,
8. all the house of Israel lamented after YHVH.
9. then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel,
10. saying if you return to YHVH with all your heart.
11. remove the foreign creator,
